2012 Fall Ministry Update

IN OTHER NEWS

Highlights from this fall!

Meet the PR Crew!
The group of students you see in the picture above is our Publicity team. They are under the leadership of Anna (student in the middle with IVCF shirt). Anna has been a highlight to our ministry this fall as she has exploded and continues to wow Stephanie and I with her innovation and her desire to see people meet Jesus and get involved with InterVarsity. The PR crew is in charge of passing out flyers weekly for our Large Group events, as well as updating our new website and Facebook page. She meets weekly with her team as they explore different  ways to get the name of Jesus and IV out on campus. One of the things they did this semester was a flash mob on campus! You can see what they did by watching this video.

Looking for Partners!
With all the awesome stuff God is doing on campus this semester, more time is needed for me to be on campus. But inorder for me to stay on campus full time, I am in need of more financial support. I am currently at 48% of my budget goal for this year. In my 3 years in serving with InterVarsity, this is the first time I am in danger of running a deficit with my fund raising. Will you please pray for God to continually to provide for the financial needs of my ministry. Will you prayerfully consider making a gift today? If you are ready to make a gift, please follow this link and donate today!

Newark Students with Stephanie and I at Big Event 2012 =]

Casting our nets WIDE!

Two weeks ago, 25 Newark InterVarsity Students joined 400 other students in our fall training conference. Of those 25, 12 of them were first year students or joining InterVarsity for the first time on campus this semester, and they are all already plugged in and serving!

These students were a part of our strategic plan of REACHING AS MANY AS POSSIBLE! So far this semester, we have met with 738 students at the campuses of NJIT, Rutgers Newark, and Essex County College. WHOOO!!!!!!

It has been a tremendous blessing to see our students taking risks each week in meeting new people whether it's through passing flyers, updating social media, tabling, spiritual surveys and having spiritual conversations on campus.

Catching the Fish!

Even with our success in casting our nets wide, we are still not seeing the growth that we have hoped for from our strategic planning sessions in the Spring and Summer. Not only are our student leaders are noticing it, even members of the fellowship are!

With that being said, we are in the midst of finding new ways to integrate all these students we have met. One of the things we have been emphasizing is our "plus 1" initiative. Matt, our Large Group coordinator, has invited and challenged every member that comes to our LG meetings to come with a friend each week. In inviting our friends, it will allow trust to be formed and spark curiosity in those who may or may not realize they are seeking a greater truth in life. So would you all continue to pray with us as we see students develop in leadership, as well as invite, partner, and work together to see God's kingdom come at the campuses in Newark!

Speaking of Fish...

2 weeks ago at Big Event, I had the privilege of helping to teach over 130 students on learning the Inductive Bible Study Method by studying the book of Jonah. We spent a day learning how to make observations, interpret scripture, and developing applications that are appropriate based on the text we read. It was soooooooo awesome!!!

The portion I taught was Jonah chapter 2...when Jonah was in the belly of the fish. From the observations and interpretations these students made, 2 applications came up:

1) Have you ever prayed a prayer of distress? How do you expect God to respond? How WILL you react when God does respond?

2) God used a place of death (belly of the fish) as a place of deliverance for Jonah...how are you being called to help those that are in a place of death on campus?

Will you pray with me for these 130+ students as they continue to learn to study scripture, as well as continuing their growth in leadership and how God wants to use them mightily on the campuses in NY and NJ?
